Cork has amazing acoustic-insulating qualities and cork flooring also is much more comfortable to walk on than traditional hardwood and most certainly tile. Long gone are the days when cork was available in any color so long as it was blonde — today's options span the color palette. Thanks to new factory finishes, cork is far more durable than it was just a few decades prior.
Cork is the most natural and environmentally friendly of the woods out there. Cork is harvested from a living cork tree. During the harvesting process the trees are never harmed or destroyed, making cork a 100% renewable flooring material. A cork tree stores carbon in pockets and when the cork is laid on your floor this is what makes it so soft, warm and the perfect natural insulator. But it is susceptible to moisture damage and will fade when exposed to sunlight.
